Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED TO WEAR A MASK?
Masks are optional, now that the county order has ended.  Instructors and desk crew are continuing to wear masks for at least a couple of weeks while we watch the rates of infection and hospitalization.  We will continue to offer free masks at our front desk, and encourage students to wear them while moving through the building and getting setup, but also have no judgement for people who are ready to take theirs off as long as people continue to be mindful of social distancing.  Mats are spaced ~6 feet apart in our studio.

HOW HOT WILL IT BE?
We have set a range of temperatures for various classes, between 85-95℉.  Please check the schedule for the expected temperature.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FORCED-AIR & INFRARED-HEAT?
Click for answer.

IS INFRARED HEAT SAFE?
Yes!  For most people, it is.  In fact, there's cellular benefits to spending time in this type of warmth.  However, because the heat can affect people who are taking certain medications, or who are living with certain conditions (pregnancy, high blood pressure, diabetes), if you are unsure, it's important to ask your medical care provider if infrared heat is safe for you.  One consideration in this decision is that our panels are not concentrated and close to the body as they are in infrared-saunas, but instead are on the ceiling and spaced out, to gently heat the entire space.   Learn more here.

WILL I BE ABLE TO PRACTICE IN A MASK?
Everyone is different.  It is typically easier to breathe in a room that is heated via radiant heat / infrared panels, since the air is not heated like it is with convection heat / forced-air, but each person's comfort may vary.  You are encouraged to give it a try.  Your first class is free, and if you ever need to leave the class that you paid for because of difficulty breathing, you can contact us to request a refund.

IS YOGA FOR ME?
YES!  If you are breathing, yoga is for you.  Anyone can practice yoga, as long as you are honest about your abilities and do not push yourself past your limits.  The physical practice of yoga is only one of eight limbs of the teachings, and true yoga has very little to do with what your body can or cannot do, and more to do with your response to what is, or is not happening.  If you have concerns, contact us so we can guide you to develop a practice that can serve you best.

WHAT STYLES OF YOGA ARE TAUGHT AT RADIANT LOTUS?

I'M A BEGINNER, WHAT CLASSES ARE BEST FOR ME TO TRY?
Our Yoga Foundations class is specifically designed to guide practitioners who are newer to practice.  Taught in the style of Alignment Yoga, with some flowing movement and opportunities for deeper learning with anatomical models, and introductory explorations of the eight limbs of yoga.

Slow Flow, Gentle Flow, and Yin/Restorative classes are also excellent for beginning yogis to learn the postures (aka "asana") and how to transition through them safely.  You can also contact individual instructors for information about private lessons.  Learn more about instructors and their backgrounds.

Additionally, we are working behind the scenes to create a Introduction to Yoga Video Course + App that you can access anytime, anywhere, so that you can learn all you need to know to feel confident and safe on your mat in any class, without the hassle of trying to make it to a workshop.

HOW DO I TRY MY FIRST CLASS
Go to www.momoyoga.com/youareradiant and click "Book Now" on the class you want to sign up for.  You will be directed to register, and then to purchase a class pass to book with.  Select "Free Class Pass $0", and proceed to follow prompts.  Contact us if you have any questions, or feel free to show up about 15 minutes before class to drop-in (space permitting).

CAN I TRY ALL OF THE CLASSES BEFORE COMMITTING TO A MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP?
Yes!  You can purchase a one-time 33 Day Unlimited pass for just $33, or you can drop-in to any class for $20.  There are also 5-class and 10-class options that are valid for six months, and offer a discount the drop-in rate.

WHAT IF I LOVE IT AND WANT TO COME EVERYDAY?
We'd love that!!  We have classes 7 days a week.  If you will attend 6+ classes a month, becoming a Monthly Member is the best deal.  Join at https://www.momoyoga.com/youareradiant/member/order/create/choose-product.

WHERE DO I PARK?
You can park in the Sapphire Studios parking lot, a brown building across from the shopping mall and Associated Bank.  We are inside and down the stairs to the left. (check in at the front desk in the entryway if someone is there, otherwise proceed and make sure to tell the instructor your name before or after class)

ARE THERE SHOWERS?
Yes!  We have two private bathrooms with full showers, and towels available as needed.  Shower access on a first-come-first-served basis.

ARE THERE LOCKERS?
Yes!  We have a limited number of lockers available on a first-come-first-served basis.  Please bring your own lock.

We also have a space for you to hang belongings in the hallway outside the studio, with camera surveillance.  Possessions are left at your own risk.  The studio is not responsible for your belongings.  Our mats are spaced out to allow for social distancing, so if you prefer bringing your things into the studio, that is ok too.  Please leave wet boots, jackets and umbrellas outside of the studio.  In the winter months, look for trays upstairs for you to leave your shoes/boots.

DO YOU HAVE AGE LIMITS?
Students 10-15 are welcome to attend classes when accompanied by an adult.  For special circumstances, please contact the studio.  We are eager to provide access to classes to all seekers, and are willing to make exceptions when a student displays maturity and dedication to the practice.  Students 16+ can attend on their own with written permission from a guardian.

IS THE STUDIO ACCESSIBLE?
We strive to make our facility a safe and accessible space for all.  We are working to improve formats of communication, class access, and minority representation.  Our studio is owned by a queer, disabled & autistic woman whose main priority is ensuring that everyone feels safe, welcome and at home here.  If you have any concerns, please contact us so we can work together to identify and create solutions.

PLEASE NOTE: our studio is located in the lower floor of an older building without an elevator.  If you are a wheelchair user, or have any other limitation that prevents you from being able to access our lower floor studio, please contact us about a complimentary video and virtual class access membership so that you can practice along at home.  Weekly virtual classes begin in November, and when attended live, can be adjusted to the needs of the participants.  If there is anything making it impossible or extraordinarily challenging for you to access our classes (disability, injury, finances, etc), please contact us so that we can accommodate your needs.  We are always learning, and eager to serve all seekers.

We realize video or livestream access is NOT the same as the privilege of accessing a studio space, particularly a hot studio.  It is our intention and priority to grow enough in the coming couple of years that we can both A) sign a lease on a bigger space that is accessible for people who use mobility devices, and B) transition to an entirely Pay-What-You-Can model of service.

If you know of or offer any services that help small businesses improve their accessibility, please contact us.  We don't know what we don't know, but we are eager to learn.  At Radiant Lotus Yoga & Wellness, we understand that *YOGA IS FOR ALL PEOPLE*, and any barriers that exist to prevent any person from accessing the teachings is not in alignment with the teachings themselves.  We are also human, working within an imperfect system.  We appreciate community input and collaboration, so that we can continue to improve access and representation, and work toward creating equitable access for all.
